Chenda Padanam
AMARAM Chenda class
Through OHM NZ, ‘Chenda padanam’ class was initiated for the members who are like minded and passionate about learning Chenda. Online classes coupled with practice sessions are held weekly and are trained under the guidance of Porur Harikrishnan, son of Late Porur Ramachandra Marar a ’Thayambaka’ pioneer. Amaram team of 15 includes 4 children and are currently being trained in Panchari melam .
Chenda learning always starts and ends with “Ganapati Kai’ dedication to Lord Ganapathi. Chenda is learned the traditional way where students have to practice on stone or wood rounds with a thick stick usually made of tamarind tree bark.
This is not an OHM NZ initiative and is organised and managed by some of our interested members.
