Neighbourhood Groups
We envisage developing this as a self-help and family support group for the members who all are living in the same locality or area by coming together and supporting each other in times of grieving of a family or on local emergencies, as the first support point, and join in each one’s personal or professional success, happiness, and celebrations. Currently among us, Malayalis, this trait is missing, or they are shy to celebrate or say publicly their or their children’s successes and thereby it’s not known, congratulated, or acknowledged and appreciated publicly. Through this grouping, would ike to see this change.
To make it a workable structure, we wish to assemble ten or more families each from the same neighbourhood, say, from within and around five kilometres radius of their residence. Thereby they can have regular interaction and support in the following ways.
- An opportunity for our members to find, identify and meet someone from your own community in your immediate vicinity or area whom you don’t or didn’t know otherwise.
- A first contact point at times of any calamities or emergencies in that area.
- If interested organise themselves poojas, prayers or any religious activities as a group as they wish or want to promote their own religious and social needs and requirements.
- To participate on a local basis in “Ramayana maasam” being organised by OHM NZ annually.
- Look after the home and property while someone is temporarily away from home or on holiday.
- Represent and become part of OHM NZ local area network group for wider community activities.
- Moral support and help with food and any other service a grieving family may need or require at that time.
- Support and help a family during hospitalisation or on any special medical conditions.
- Develop bonding among families and children.
- Thereby educate and make children learn how to live and behave in a community and become responsible citizens.
- Help to develop language and cultural affinity, togetherness, and bonding among members in that area, especially among children, otherwise missing due to current independent single-family living.
- Dropping or picking from schools or providing temporary childcare support for each other’s children at times.
- Organising and conducting this properly can become an inspiration and motivation for others to join OHM NZ.
